Biography of Sanshichiro Kineya
Sanshichiro Kineya is a member of the legendary Kineya Nagauta Family. He is a solo vocalist of traditional Japanese Nagauta music and has performed and taught numerous workshop in Japan and abroad since 1998.
Sanshichiro Kineya started training in Nagauta with Gosankichi Kineya In 1992. He entered the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1992. At university, he was given the artist name "Sanshichiro" from his grand master Nagauta artist Sanzaemon Kineya.
He has received diverse training in, and has knowledge of traditional Japanese music, such as, Kiyomoto, Kouta, and Ogie style of traditional singing. Sanshichiro Kineya received the Kineya-Jyoukan Award while he was at the Tokyo University of the Arts.
In 1998 he was invited to ISTA and performed and toured across Europe, and in 2000, received the Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs Artist Fellowship. In the same year, he joined a collective music artist group, Yukaina Nakamatachi " Funky Music Friends," with whom, he appeared with numerous times on educational programs for NHK TV in Japan.
In 2004, he presented his first solo concert "The World of Sanshichiro" at Ginza Kanematsu Hall in Tokyo.
Currently, he is regularly invited to play in Kabuki productions at the Kabuki-za National Theater, among others. As a producer and director, he presents music and culture events at various venues in Tokyo.
